SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Patric Manabat, one of the eight supporters of the murdered former La Union 2nd district Congressman Eufranio “Franny” Eriguel, who was injured during his assassination last Saturday died at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) here Wednesday.
Representative Sandra Young-Eriguel, the wife of the former lawmaker, said that Manabat died while undergoing treatment at ITRMC due to multiple gunshot wounds. Aside from Manabat, another one is still in critical condition while the six injured victims are now in stable condition.
“Franny” was gunned down while delivering a speech before a crowd during the “miting de avance” of candidates in Barangay Capas, Agoo town at around 7:00 p.m. last May 12, a day before the village and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
The killers who arrived at the place on board two luxury vehicles allegedly used an Armalite rifle and cal.45 pistol in the assassination of “Franny” where two of his bodyguards, Bong Tubera and Bobby Ordinario, were also caught in the gunfire and died on the spot as they vainly tried to protect the former lawmaker.
Rep. Eriguel and her family expressed the belief that politics was behind the assassination of her husband.
“The murder of Franny was politically-motivated because this has happened close to the election day. I respectfully appeal to President Duterte to help fast track and resolve the investigation on the murder of my husband. This cowardly act should not be tolerated,” Rep. Eriguel said.
Villanueva allegedly was among those who have linked with the suspects because of incriminating text messages from his cellphone seized by authorities after the killing.
Authorities have arrested Felizardo Villanueva, alias Rambo, a losing candidate for barangay captain in Barangay Capas, and was already charged with multiple murder in connection with the assassination. Jun Elias and William Gracia,Jr/Northbound Philippines News
