Wife lover arrested for killing her OFW husband

SAN JUAN, La Union – One of the five suspects in the killing of a seaman last August 12 at Barangay Duplas here was arrested at a checkpoint along the village road of Nagsabaran this town last Tuesday.

Senior Inspector Juanito Buaron, Jr., chief of police, identified the suspect as Rogelio Velasco, 36, a farmer, married, and a resident of Barangay Dasay here.

Buaron added that Velasco, who was riding on a motorcycle, was flagged down by the police at the checkpoint for not wearing a helmet. He was found in possession of one live shotgun ammunition.

“When my men asked Velasco why he was carrying a bullet, he could not give any reason, and that prompted them to arrest the suspect,” said Buaron.

Velasco was also believed to be one of the five armed men who barged into the house of the seaman in Barangay Duplas and killed Edgar Ursua, 33, an overseas Filipino worker. The suspects carted away valuables from the house including a $100 bill.

The police learned that the OFW’s wife, Manilyn, 25, had an affair with Velasco for several months which lead the police investigation on the robbery and killing of her husband.

The wife also told investigators that she was pregnant (by Velasco) before her husband came home from Singapore.

Velasco is now charged for robbery with homicide filed against him by the police through the office of the provincial prosecutor. It was not mentioned that the wife would also be charged for her participation of the killing of her husband.

Buaron added that they are still conducting further investigation, particularly on the four suspects involved in said killing of Ursua and robbery at the dead man’s house. NPN-northboundasia.com
