White Roof community painting project launched in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Tourism – Cordillera Regional Office (DOT-CAR) and Baguio City on Sunday formally launched “Project Puraw” or the “White Roof Community Painting Project” in four barangays here.

Project Puraw is part of the DOT-CAR’s Revitalize Bloom (Rev-Bloom) Program encompassing four barangays — the Lower, Middle, East and West Quirino Hill.

There are about 1,200 houses and buildings in Quirino Hill to be painted under the project that may include shanties and dog houses.

Painting will be done by members of the community in two phases. Phase 1 will involve painting of the roofs while Phase 2 is the painting of walls, to be completed within a year.

Quirino Hill residents agreed to paint their roofs with white and the walls will be of any color they want.

The panoramic view of the project shall bear a replica of the “Ling-Ling-O”, a traditional pendant originating from the Mountain Province which is a symbol of one’s wealth and is made out of gold.

DOT-CAR director Venus Tan said the event was graced by no less than DOT Undersecretary Alma Rita Jimenez and local officials headed by Baguio City Representative Marquez Go, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Cordillera Regional Office (DENR-CAR) director Ralph Pablo, Boysen Paints representatives and barangay officials of Quirino Hill.
