BAGUIO CITY — Former Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Joel Villanueva is bringing a message of hope across the country with the help of a bus-full of tall men.
Villanueva is bringing over to key locations in the country former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) stars in the hope of spreading the message that the unemployed can still make it big someday through the “Shoot for your Dreams” roadshow.
The PBA stars include Alvin Patrimonio, Jerry Cordinera, Kenneth Dumendes, Marlou Aquino, Roger Yap, Johnny Abarrientos, Bal David, Bobby Jose, and Bonbon Custodio who go up against local teams called Team TRABAHO during the roadshow which was held Thursday at the University of Baguio gymnasium.
Villanueva said he hopes that the roadshow will spread his advocacy of ensuring the creation of jobs and land employment because it will inspire viewers not to give up and aspire to be the best in their own fields.
“I am committed to what I have started [in TESDA] of giving technical and vocational skills to Filipinos in order for them to have gainful employment,” Villanueva said, adding he hopes to do so in the Senate after his stint at TESDA.
He claimed that since he took over the reins of TESDA, he saw the increase in the hiring of TESDA graduates from 28 percent to 72 percent. Key to this achievement is the institutionalization of the National Competency Rating scheme which ranks the skill level of graduates.
“We built international linkages and follow international standards in TESDA to ensure that foreign companies hire qualified Filipinos,” Villanueva added. PNA/northboundasia.com
