SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The chairman of Barangay Ilocanos Norte here and his nephew were killed while the former’s live-in partner was wounded in a gun attack inside their house by unidentified assailants Sunday night.
Superintendent Bryant Demot, the city police chief, identified the victims as barangay captain Audy Flores, 52, and nephew Medelito Flores, 35, all residents of Ilocanos Norte.
Audy was the No. 1 in the list of illegal drug personalities in La Union while his partner is No. 8 in the city level. The couple and his nephew surrendered recently to authorities but did not abandon their illegal activities, according to police.
Audy and his nephew died on the spot while Audy’s partner, Renalyn Munar, 34, suffered gunshots on her face and was being treated at a local hospital.
Initial investigations showed that a commotion was heard inside the house of the victims followed by gunshots. The suspects fled immediately. Authorities recovered several empty shells of caliber.45 at the crime scene.
In Luna town, Aris Acosta, 32, listed as No. 1 in the list of illegal drug personality in the municipal level, was shot dead by unidentified motor-cycle riding suspects. Acosta recently surrendered to police but sources said he did not stop in his illegal drug trade.
In Sudipen town, Jojo Bugasao, 36, a resident of Barangay Up-Uplas, was arrested by policemen led by Chief Inspector Bernardo Manzano, after he was caught with several sachets of the banned methampethamine hydrocloride or shabu during the implementation of a search warrant early Monday.
