Village Councilor slain over illegal drugs

SAN JUAN, La Union – A Councilor of Barangay Dangdangla, who is also a trike driver, was gunned down by unidentified suspects at around 11:00
a.m. in front the Sta. Rosa Elementary School here yesterday.

Superintendent Artemio Infante, La Union police’s information officer, identified the fatality as Edward Olete, 45.

Infante said Olete was sitting on his tricycle waiting for passengers when two unidentified suspects riding on a motorcycle shot him several times on his head and body. He was declared dead on the spot.

Police said Olete was included in the town’s list of illegal drug personalities.

Meanwhile, the chairman of barangay Rissing in Luna town was arrested yesterday after he was caught with five sachets of the banned methampethamine hydrochloride or shabu and assorted ammunitions during the implementation of a search warrant.

Infante identified the suspect as Roger Sibayan, chairman of Barangay Rissing and listed as the number one illegal drug personality in Luna.

Sibayan’s house was raided by authorities based on search warrant issued by Judge Edilberta Casiano of the municipal trial court.

The suspect is now in police custody for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. JUN ELIAS/
