Village chairman, five others arrested for guns, ammunition in Pangasinan

BALUNGAO, Pangasinan — A village chief was among six persons arrested by the police in their simultaneous raids in different houses in Barangay San Julian, Balungao on Thursday where lawmen seized a number of firearms and ammunition, including a hand grenade, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) reported on Friday.

The village official was identified as Wilson Gaon 55, incumbent barangay chairman of San Julian, Balungao from whose house combined elements of the police seized one Colt Automatic Caliber .45 pistol, 51 ammunition for Caliber .45, one Norinco Caliber .45 pistol and three magazine assemblies for Caliber .45.

The raiders from the different units of the police led by Supt. Virgilio Pascua, commander of the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC). implemented search warrants issued by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Ferdinand Fe of Branch 67 in Bauang, La Union against different suspects .

All the suspects were believed members of a gun-for-hire group operating in eastern Pangasinan and other parts of the province.

Also arrested was farmer Joel Lilagan, 36, who yielded one caliber .45 Colt pistol with magazine assembly, Caliber .38 revolver one 9mm pistol with magazine assembly, three fired cartridges for Garand rifle bullets and one holster;

Another arrested was Midi Lilagan, 35, also farmer, from whose house lawmen seized one bullet-proof vest, one Super Caliber .22 revolver, one Caliber .45 pistol, a magazine assembly for caliber .45, one magazine assembly for caliber .30, ammunition of various caliber, a camouflage sniper belt, a camouflage pouch, and one sling bag.

In another house, one Efren Ormita, 35, was also arrested. Lawmen found in his house one M16 Armalite rifle, one magazine assembly for M16 rifle, 35 ammunition for Caliber 5.56, one Caliber 9mm pistol Berretta with one magazine assembly, one silencer for 9mm pistol, 13 ammunition for caliber 9mm, a hand grenade, four ammunition for Caliber .45, eight fired cartridge cases for Caliber .45, 12 fired cartridge cases for Cal 5.56, nine fired cartridge cases for carbine, one inside holster, one bandolier, a black sling bag, one camouflage sling bag and two clips for Garand rifle.

Also arrested was Julito Asuncion, 24, whose house yielded one rifle grenade and 24 live ammunition; and Christopher Oria, 26, whose house lawmen found one Colt Cal. .45, seven ammunition, one home-made Cal .22 and a magazine.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects Jerry Laligan was not in his house where lawmen searched and found one hand grenade placed in a pouch.

The searches were done in orderly manner in the presence of barangay officials of San Julian and other witnesses.

All the six arrested persons were brought to the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital for medical examination and subsequently brought to PPSC headquarters in Tayug town. PNA –
