MANILA — The camp of United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) standard bearer Vice President Jejomar C. Binay on Tuesday welcomed the decision of Supreme Court junking the disqualification case against presidential candidate Senator Grace Poe.
The SC voted 9-6 in favor of Poe who challenged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) over the citizenship and residency issues filed against her.
“We welcome the decision and respect the decision. This only means as for the party and Vice President Binay, it is up for the people to decide on who will be the country’s next President,” Mon Ilagan, Binay’s spokesperson said.
“Whether she (Poe) is disqualified or not, there will be no changes because UNA and the Vice President are mainly focused on attending to the needs of our impoverished fellowmen,” Ilagan added.
For his part, Atty. Rico Quicho, UNA’s campaign spokesperson said the Supreme Court’s decision has no bearing on the party’s campaign.
“This election is not about who the opponents are but who is the most prepared to address the problem of poverty. Vice President Binay is that candidate,” Quicho noted. PNA/northboundasia.com
