TUGUEGARAO CITY — City Mayor Jefferson P. Soriano has assured his constituents that they can expect a more progressive and peaceful community in the near future, as he reported the city government’s accomplishments this year, including the multi-million-peso worth of infrastructure projects that have just been completed.
Soriano, during the city’s 18th Charter Day celebration at the People’s Gym here on Monday, said the infrastructure projects already completed are now the strong pillars of Tuguegarao, propelling it towards economic growth, livelihood development, and competitiveness in commerce, trade and industry.
“In 1999, as a municipality, the budget was only PHP93.15 million. This year, our budget was PHP800 million. That means more than 700 percent increase in 18 years. We used all the resources to improve our quality of life, productivity, compliance, residence and competitiveness,” he said.
The big projects he enumerated include the construction of the Robinsons mall and SM Center Tuguegarao Downtown that opened last October, providing numerous business opportunities and employment.
Soriano also reported on the city government’s expanded poverty reduction accomplishments and achievements of the localization efforts to effectively reduce the number of poor households as well as the continued capability building for economic growth, peace and order, technology and livelihood, health and nutrition, education and good governance.
“Today, we see many improvements in schools, barangays, businesses and government services. There are more children studying and more businesses expanding. We need to protect our hard-earned development gains and progress as to ensure our continuous success and a bright future for all,” he added.
“A more progressive city and very peaceful one, that is our aspiration, our hope and our expectation from the constituents of Tuguegarao people,” the mayor said. PNA-northboundasia.com
