“Trigger-happy” Farmer arrested for gun ban violation

CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A 57-year-old farmer was arrested Monday night for “indiscriminately” firing his gun during a ‘paliga’ or village basketball tournament at Barangay Oya-oy, in Bacnotan town.

Senior Superintendent Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, identified the suspect as Eugenio Oreiro, also known as ‘Kinyo’, a resident of said barangay, who, under the influence of liquor, fired his home .38 cal.pistol or paltik four times

Dumangeng said Oreiro and his trigger-happy firing of his paltik caught the attention of village chief Reynaldo Mostrales and village policemen, who grappled with the gun-wielder and wrested the firearm from the suspect.

Oreiro has been detained at the at the Bacnotan Police station cell and will be charged for violation of RA 10591, also known as the
“Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act”.

Meanwhile, a manhunt operation is being conducted for the arrest of a certain Ben Ducusin, a resident of Banks Poro in San Fernando City, who allegedly shot a certain Angelo Luansing, a fisherman and resident of the same barangay.

Superintendent Bryant Demot, San Fernando city police chief, said that Luansing sustained injuries on his right leg and was rushed at Ilocos Training Medical Center (ITRMC) here for medical treatment. Erwin Beleo / northboundasia.com
