URDANETA CITY, Pangasinan — Due to the big volume of vehicles moving up to the north this Holy Week, motorists were advised to find alternate road towards La Union while in Pangasinan.
A traffic advisory issued Thursday by Chief Insp. Ryan Manongdo, chief of police of Pozorrubio town, called on motorists going to the north, specifically Baguio, to avoid the Manila North Road (MNR) from Sison, Pangasinan to Rosario, La Union where traffic is now moving at a snail’s pace.
Though advising motorists to take alternate road to the north, Manongdo also called on them to avoid Manaoag town where up to two million devotees are flocking this Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
He said that if the motorists on board light vehicles are already in Pozorrubio town, they may take the Pozorrubio-San Jacinto provincial road then proceed to San Fabian that leads to Damnortis, Sto. Tomas, La Union.
He said police personnel have deployed and posted signages along the roads in Pozorrubio to guide motorists where they could avoid the heavy traffic gridlock.
Elsewhere in other parts of Pangasinan, the police posted signages where motorists can safely take enroute to their destination to the north.
A report from the police in La Union traced that the slow moving traffic to the bottleneck of northbound vehicles due to the build up of traffic at the narrow Sison-Pozorrubio bridge which is only a two lane bridge.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has warned of the on-going road works along Manila North Road in La Union and Ilocos Sur that may slowdown their travel to the Ilocos and Cordillera provinces.
Ilocos Sur Highway District Engineer Ray Organo reported that four bridges along Manila North Road are undergoing construction and could hamper travel.
These include Teppeng Bridge in Sinait, Cabugao Bridge in Cabugao, San Juan and Bical Bridges in San Juan, all in Ilocos Sur.
However, Organo said that bailey bridges have been constructed as detour for crossing vehicles.
In La Union, District Engineer Aquilino Nicer reported the on-going road and bridge projects like the Saytan Bridge in Rosario; Principe Bridge in Agoo; Sta Rita and Aringay town proper, Aringay; Caba town proper; Magsaoang and Lossoc Bridges and Payocpoc, Bauang.
Public Works Secretary Secretary Rogelio L. Singson earlier instructed DPWH field units to order contractors working on road projects to clear the national highways of barriers, including equipment, in anticipation of big volume of traffic during the Holy Week. PNA/northboundasia.com
