TUGUEGARAO CITY — In a bid to further boost tourism in the province, the Cagayan provincial government has facilitated the organization of tour guides association in Cagayan here.
The organization of tour guides was done after a week-long Eco-Tour Guiding Training at the Provincial Learning Resource Center last week in this city.
Twenty-eight tour guides from different towns and in this city have joined the group with eight members elected as Regional Eco-tour Guide Association for Cagayan in Tuguegarao (REACT).
Elected president was Benedict Santo Tomas of Piat, vice president was Christopher Valeros of Sta. Teresita, secretary was Marilyn Siriban of Aparri, and treasurer was Nicanor Narag of Piat.
Rinalene Javier of Sta. Teresita was elected auditor, Nida Dela Cruz, also of Sta. Teresita, won as press relations officer. Elected business managers were Gerald Taguinod (Penablanca) and Villamin Lizardo Jr. (Sta. Praxedes).
Tourism officer Salud Vitug said the reorganization of accredited tour guides was done to improve the tourism industry in Cagayan.
“Tour guides assist the tourism officials in promoting the spots in the province so they must be given help and more opportunities,” she added.
The tour guides, who came from Sta. Teresita, Aparri, Baggao, Lal-lo, Claveria, Tuao, Piat, Iguig, Sta. Praxedes, Penablanca and Tuguegarao City, were also trained in knot-tying at rappelling, WASAR (Water Search and Rescue), river cruising, basic mountaineering, caving, and basic first-aid, aside from having scripts in dealing with clients.
