Tornado damages 36 houses, injures 12 in NegOcc

BACOLOD CITY – A tornado hit six villages in Bacolod and Bago cities and the town of Valladolid in Negros Occidental Thursday night and damaged 36 houses and injured 12 people.

In Bacolod, the tornado was reported at around 8:30 p.m., leaving 10 houses damaged in two sub-villages in Barangay 2, according to the report of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

Nine houses were partially damaged while one was totally destroyed, but no injury was reported.

At around 7:30 p.m. in Bago, strong winds slammed three sub-villages in Barangay Sagasa and another in Barangay Caridad, based on the report of City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council released Friday afternoon.

In Sagasa, nine houses were destroyed while four were partially damaged, affecting 46 individuals.

Ten residents of Sagasa were hurt, sustaining injuries on various parts of their bodies.

About 3.45 hectares of rice plantation were also partially ruined in Sagasa.

Meanwhile, in Caridad, two houses were totally ruined while two other were partially damaged, affecting 24 people.

At past 7:00 p.m. in Valladolid, police records showed the tornado damaged three houses in Barangay Guintorilan and five in Barangay Batuan. The poultry farm of Ayungon village chief Enrico de la Gracia was also wrecked.

In Guintorilan, a woman and her 15-year-old niece were also injured.
