Teenager missing as typhoon “Lando” remains in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union-The La Union Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) continued the search of a missing 17-year-old who was allegedly swept by strong water current brought about by typhoon ‘Lando’ in the coast of Barangay San Francisco, Monday afternoon here.

Senior Superintendent Julius C. Suriben said the missing was identified as Kimberly Manansala, 17, of Barangay Madayegdeg.

She was swimming with a friend, Luis Esmael Dacanay, James Clint Manansala, her younger brother; and her cousin, Aila Manansala, all of whom were rescued.

Suriben added that the accident happened at about 3:47 p.m.

James Clint said, “Nasa tabi lang kami ng bigla nalang higupin kami ng alon, (she was just beside us when she was carried away).”

James added that they know about the typhoon and the prohibition to swim on the beach, however, they thought they will just wade along the shore and not expecting that accident would happen.

Search and retrieval operations are still going on by the CDRRMC and the PDRRMC.
