Task Force formed to track down San Carlos City cop’s killers

AGUILAR, Pangasinan — The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) has formed a task force to track down the armed men who gunned down and killed a policeman and wounded his colleague in Barangay, Agdao, San Carlos City Wednesday morning.

Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Agtarap was formed a few hours after SPO2 Jimbo Agtarap was killed and his colleague SPO 1 Rachael Cancino was wounded on the foot by armed men on board a white Toyota Hi-Ace van with Plate Number VN 9305.

SITG, composed of various police units, will hunt down the suspects, who abandoned their vehicle 100 meters before they were to pass a checkpoint set up by the Urbiztondo police in Barangay Dalanquiring, then ran to a nearby corn field where they made good their escape.

Supt. Nestor Cusi, chief of police of San Carlos City, initially believed the slaying could be drug-related as Agtarap was a member of the Drug Enforcement Team of the police.

He was shot by the suspects while on board his motorcycle bound for the city proper of San Carlos City to report for work. He sustained 11 gunshot wounds in different parts of his body and died on the spot.

PO1 Cancino chased the fleeing suspects on board his own motorcycle and was shot and wounded on the foot.

It appears that the slaying of Agtarap was well planned following the discovery by the police of an abandoned second get-away car that may have provided back up to the gunmen in the first car.

Recovered by the police was a white Toyota Ace Grandia van with Plate No. AAW-8717.

The key of the vehicle was found in a branch of a mango tree near the place where the vehicle was found. LVM/PNA-northboundasia.com
