MANILA — Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said Tuesday she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for her confirmation by the Commission on Appointments through the hashtag #ConfirmJudy campaign.
Taguiwalo said she is “inspired and encouraged” by the strong support made known on the eve of her confirmation hearing on Wednesday (May 3).
She noted that working for the department in the past 10 months has “taught me so much regarding the necessity of ensuring promptness and compassion when it comes to government service”.
”We have done our best and we will continue to exert all the effort we can to ensure that under our leadership, the DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) will remain among the most responsive and pro-poor agencies of the Duterte administration,” she said.
The social welfare chief recalled that when the National Democratic Front of the Philippines nominated her for the post and when President Rodrigo Duterte appointed her, “there was no doubt in my mind as to the direction my leadership in the DSWD would take and what values we will embrace: pro-poor, anti-corruption, inclusive, and compassionate”.
She vowed never to deviate from this because this is “what we owe the Filipino people”.
“Thank you to those who believe in me, my leadership, and what it stands for not only in the DSWD, but in the context of public service itself,” she said.
Taguiwalo and three other Cabinet secretaries were bypassed by the Commission on Appointments last March 15 but were reappointed in an ad interim capacity by the President last April 17.PR/PNA/northboundasia.com
