LAOAG CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways on Sunday announced that the Tagudin-Cervantes Road in Barangay Man-atong has been closed due to landslide.
In a road advisory issued July 22, the DPWH Regional Office 1 reported that road clearing operations are still ongoing as of this posting.
Jocelyn Oamar, spokesperson of the DPWH 1, said maintenance engineers and point persons were already deployed in the area to monitor the situation.
Since last week, the Ilocos region has been experiencing scattered rainfall brought about by the southwest monsoon, enhanced by a series of typhoons in this part of northern Luzon.
The public is advised to take extra precaution when on the road.
As of 2 p.m. Sunday, the weather bureau announced that Tropical Depression “Josie” continues to traverse the Bashi Channel.
Although storm signal no. 1 has been lifted over the Babuyan Group of Islands, occasional rains with gusty winds are still expected in Batanes.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will continue to bring scattered to widespread rains in Ilocos region.
Residents who are living near the river, including those living in low-lying and mountainous areas are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslide. PNA-northboundasia.com
