MANILA — Two men suspected of robbing and shooting the son of an ABS-CBN Zamboanga station manager were presented to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Dir. Gen. Ronald dela Rosa, in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City Friday.
Ronnie Espinosa and Ardiel Londarga came face to face with dela Rosa and received some scolding from the PNP chief.
According to police, Espinosa was the one who snatched the cellphone of Dexter Casimiro. Londarga meanwhile was arrested in a follow-up operation with a hand grenade in his possession.
The two were captured after the police received a tip that the duo were again planning to victimize passersby.
According to police, a robbery victim reported to them and this became the basis for arresting Espinosa.
Dexter Casimiro is the son of ABS-CBN Zamboanga’s Queenie Casimiro, who is also the acting chapter chairperson of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP).
Based on reports, Dexter, 24, was walking from Centris Quezon Ave. to Mindanao Ave. in Quezon City when a man tried to snatch his mobile phone.
When Dexter resisted, one of the suspects shot him twice in the shoulder and side, with the bullets hitting a lung and his spine.
The incident left him critically wounded and although doctors have managed to operate on and stabilize the lung, he still has to undergo delicate procedures on his spine. He remains in hospital. PNA/northboundasia.com
