Suspected gun-for-hire nabbed while shadowing mayor’s campaign

SAN NICOLAS, Pangasinan — A suspected gun-for-hire and his companion were nabbed while allegedly trailing on board a big motorcycle the group of incumbent Mayor Rebecca Saldivar while campaigning house-to-house in Barangay Bensican, San Nicolas at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday (April 16).

This after concerned supporters of Saldivar noticed two suspicious looking persons on board a Yamaha R6 Big Bike colored blue bearing plate number 3264 GB which was roaming around the vicinity of Barangay Bensican where the mayor and her companion were campaigning.

Saldivar’s group flagged down and accosted the motorcycle riders and were turned over, including their motorcycle, to the San Nicolas police for investigation.

They were later identified as Leonilo Sarmiento, 43, of San Miguel, Nueva Ecija, driver of the motorcycle; and his back ride Teodoro Vicente, 49, of Purok 8, Dalampang, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.

The police later on verified that motorcycle was to be registered under the Presidential Security Group.

Following coordination made by the Provincial Investigation Branch of the Pangasinan Police Office and the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office, suspect Sarmiento was found to have standing warrant of arrest for murder and believed to be a notorious gun-for-hire.

Upon receipt of a copy of his warrant of arrest, Sarmiento was held under arrest by the San Nicolas Police, Pangasinan Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG), Pangasinan Public Safety Company and Police Investigation Branch.

Sarmiento remains under the custody of the San Nicolas police pending his transfer to the court which issued his warrant of arrest. PNA/
