URDANETA CITY — A suspected gun-for-hire and a top drug personality was shot dead in an armed encounter with policemen in front of the city’s town Catholic cemetery here at dawn Tuesday following a drug buy-bust operation here, the Urdaneta City Police reported.
Dead on the spot was one Larry Tenefrancia, 57, a drug personality and a suspected drug-for-hire, who is a native of Iloilo City and now residing in Barangay Nancamaliran, Urdaneta, who traded shots with elements of the City Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (CAISOTG) and intelligence operatives of the Urdaneta Police led by Supt. Jeff Fanged, chief of police, and of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 1.
Investigation showed that Tenefrancia and an unidentified police poseur buyer agreed to meet in front of the town’s cemetery at dawn today but as the latter was approaching, he recognized the same to be a policeman, prompting him to draw his firearm, a Cal. 45 pistol, and opened fire.
The policeman and his companions, who were just nearby, retaliated hitting the suspect in various parts of his body and died on the spot.
The dead suspect was found to have a pending case for frustrated murder filed by the Urdaneta City police on April 16.
Recovered near the body of the suspect were a Cal. 45 pistol with one inserted magazine containing three live ammunition and three empty cartridges, a cellular phone, a black wallet and one sachet of suspected shabu. PNA/northboundasia.com
