DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — A suspected drug pusher was killed in an encounter with members of the Dagupan City police on Wednesday.
Supt. Christopher Abrahano, city chief of police, identified the suspect as Carlo Ubando, tricycle driver and a resident of Barangay Pantal.
Abrahano said initial investigation showed personnel of the Dagupan police were conducting follow-up operation on a robbery incident when they met Ubando, who was driving his tricycle at the moment, wearing a bonnet covering his face.
The police officers stopped the suspect and as they were approaching him, Ubando pointed his caliber 38 revolver at them.
However, police officers already fired at Ubando before he was able to pull his trigger.
“That was to neutralize the threat”, said Abrahano, defending his men who shot and killed Ubando.
He added the suspect was immediately brought to the nearby hospital but died while undergoing treatment.
Abrahano said Ubando is in the drug watch list of the local police.
An investigation on the incident is still underway.
“Even though those involved are our colleagues, they are still subject of investigation”, said Abrahano. HILDA AUSTRIA/PNA/northboundasia.com
