CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – After almost 30 years in hiding, a man who murdered and robbed a jeweler in Candon City in December 1987 was arrested in Barangay Poblacion Sur, Gregorio Del Pilar, Ilocos Sur yesterday.
Senior Superintendent Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, identified the suspect as Virgilio Prades, 56, La Union’s No. 2 most wanted person, who has standing warrants for murder, robbery and carnapping.
Dumangeng said Prades is the primary suspect in the killing of Pastor Pasahol in Candon City on Dec. 15, 1987.
Prades allegedly took assorted jewelries and gold worth P600, 000 of Pasahol before shooting him down, took the victim’s car along with his loot and fled to Barangay Santiago in Bauang, La Union.
Dumangeng said the warrants were issued by Judge Rose Mary Molina Alim of the Bauang Regional Trial Court while the suspect was arrested by the joint operatives of Regional Intelligence Unit, La Union and Ilocos Sur police provincial offices, La Union provincial intelligence branch, and Bauang police station.
Dumangeng said the arrest of the suspect is a result of the intensified “Lambat-Sibat” operation of the La Union police.
No bail was recommended for the suspect’s temporary liberty. JUN ELIAS/northboundasia.com
