SULU ROADSIDE BOMBING INJURES 7 MARINE TROOPERS

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Seven marine troopers were wounded in a roadside bombing believed to have been perpetrated by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands early Thursday in the province of Sulu, an official disclosed.

Maj. Felimon Tan, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer, disclosed the incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. Thursday in Barangay Lagtoh, Talipao, Sulu.

Tan did not release the identities of the wounded soldiers except that they belong to the Marine Battalion Landing Team-10 (MBLT-10).

The troops were en route to Barangay Kuhaw, Talipao from Barangay Katian, Indanan to act as an advance forces when the convoy hit an IED.

Tan said the injured marines were promptly evacuated to the Trauma Hospital in Camp Bautista, Jolo, Sulu.

He said they were airlifted around 9:25 a.m. to this city and were taken to Camp Navarro General Hospital for further medical treatment.

The troops continuous pursuit of the ASG brigands in Sulu is aimed to neutralize the group. PNA/northboundasia.com
