MANILA– Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael D. Sueno has ordered the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to be on heightened alert in the observance of a fire-free Undas 2016 or All Saints’ Day.
Sueno directs firefighters to be responsive in any emergency that may occur during the long weekend, as thousands of Filipinos in the country ,begin trooping to cemeteries.
“We want the BFP to carry out all the necessary measures for the observance of a fire-free All Saints’ Day,”he said.
He also authorized the BFP to assist in the preservation of peace and order, safeguarding areas particularly at public cemeteries in case of fire incidents and other emergencies that may break out during the period.
The DILG secretary also directed the new BFP-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Sr. Supt. Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tui to keep his men on duty 24/7, especially in the vicinity of public and private cemeteries.
In response, the BFP official said that highly-trained rescuers had been deployed at the cemeteries, terminals and highways to assist and respond in case of emergencies as mandated by the DILG chief.
“Aside from being on full alert, the BFP will also conduct a nationwide drive to call public’s active participation in its fire prevention and road safety campaign.” The BFP official said.
He added that Metro Manila fire marshals would display posters and tarpaulins in front of fire stations, on the sides of fire trucks, and in conspicuous places to remind motorists and passersby to be cautious in driving to avoid road accidents. Aira May Dizon/PNA- northboundasia.com
