MANGALDAN, Pangasinan — A student of the Mangaldan National High School (MNHS) drowned while swimming with his three classmates along the Angalacan River in Barangay Embarcadero here at past noon Friday.
The victim was identified as Joselito Javier, 18, of Barangay Navaluan, Mangaldan who was in Grade 8 of the MNHS.
Javier, along with his classmates Jomari Narvarte, Mico Abrazaldo and John Mangopos left their campus at 9:00 a.m. during their vacant period to swim in the Angalacan River.
The incident was reported to the police at about 2:35 p.m. Friday by Glaycel M. De Ocampo, an MNHS teacher, and Narvarte who went back to school to report on what happened to his classmate Javier.
Narvarte sought help soon after Javier failed to surface after diving in the Angalacan river.
Immediately, elements of local police and members of the Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) team of the Mangaldan police , in coordination with the Rural Health Unit and Municipal Disaster Risk and Rescue Management Center (MDRRMC) and barangay officials of Embarcadero and Navaluan proceeded to the Angalacan River to conduct search and rescue operation.
When Javier was recovered, he was taken to the Region 1 Medical Center where he was pronounced dead upon arrival by attending physician. PNA
