BAGUIO CITY — Sectoral representatives in the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) and Northern Luzon on Saturday expressed their commitment to become active partners in nation building to support the Duterte administration’s resolve to attain inclusive growth.
Expressing the commitment were more than 100 representatives from local governments, line agencies and non-government organizations during the first “Nation Building Workshop” presided by Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella at the Hotel Elizabeth here.
In the first year administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, Abella said it is crucial to know the people’s expectations so that government can clearly lay down its plans and programs by engaging with community leaders and influencers.
”We determine our future on what we do today. We have less than six months to make a difference,” Abella said.
During the workshop, participants were asked about their expectations on what the government can deliver particularly in the next three years and what they can commit to secure the Filipino children’s future.
”We became a basket case in Asia because we are undisciplined and lack love for country,” one of the participants said.
At the end of the workshop, participants committed to become active partners for change; in attaining inclusive growth; and support federalism so that ordinary Filipinos can have more access for opportunities particularly in the countryside.
In order for the Philippines to fully take off economically, Abella said the Duterte administration will continue to strongly address the problems on illegal drugs, corruption and in bringing peace and development in Mindanao.
”But a nation is not built by one man. We must start with ourselves,” he said. Jojo Lamaria/PNA-northboundasia.com
