LAOAG CITY — Owing to the successful implementation of the “Night Express”, a subsidized public transport system extending the operation of bus and jeepney operators and drivers in different parts of the province, the Metro Ilocos Norte Council (MINC) is again studying the possible expansion of “shuttle bus” service for students and may also include senior citizens here.
Laoag City Administrator Cipriano Hilarion “Perry” Martinez in his capacity as MINC consultant said that with the opening of classes, Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos has thought of introducing shuttle bus to cater to its students who are rushing to go to school in the morning and go home in the afternoon.
“We are still on the planning stage but definitely this will be a better service lalo na yung mga nasa malalayo na estudiyante,” said Martinez.
According to Martinez, they are available buses which the provincial government plans to lease with the owners as a shuttle service but the amount have yet to be negotiated if feasible.
The proposed routes include the northern towns of Bacarra all the way to Davila, Pasuquin town and in the eastern towns of Marcos and Solsona where there is limited express public transport services.
“The governor is so concern about the students at ‘yung pagpasok nila. So, let’s wait for her announcement,” said Martinez as he enjoined all Ilocanos to embrace change and do not be afraid to experiment to yield better results. PNA/northboundasia.com.ph
