Sen. De Lima’s co-accused Ronnie Dayan nabbed in Pangasinan

URBIZTONDO, Pangasinan — Ronnie Dayan, the former driver and alleged lover of then Justice Secretary, now Senator Leila De Lima, is now under the custody of the Urbiztondo police as of past 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

This was bared by Chief Inspector Joshua Maximo, chief of police of Urbiztondo who told newsmen the arrest warrant issued by Branch 204 of the Regional Trial Court of Muntinlupa City was received by him at 7:00 a.m. through an email.

Dayan’s co-accused, Senator De Lima, waited for the warrant of arrest in the Senate at past 7:00 p.m. today and when it did not come, she decided to go home and vowed to return to the Friday morning to wait for the warrant of her arrest at her office.

The two were charged before the court for their alleged involvement in illegal drugs trade.

Chief Inspector Maximo said in the case of Dayan, they went to serve a copy of the warrant in his house at Barangay Galarin, Urbiztondo.

Dayan went with the police willingly and reportedly said to the arresting policemen “this was expected”.

Not one of his relatives was with him.

At the Urbiztondo police, Dayan evaded newsmen and refused to answer questions from them, saying he could not do so without a counsel.

Maximo is yet coordinating with his superior, Senior Supt. Ronald Oliver Lee, acting police provincial director, and will wait for his guidance.

In the meantime, Dayan will spend the night at the lock up cell of the Urtbiztondo.

Maximo said that as a normal procedure, Dayan will be brought to the court where the arrest warrant was issued. LEONARDO MICUA/
