LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — A second drowning incident was recorded in Pangasinan on Saturday, shattering the zero drowning incident target this Christmas holiday by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
At the heels of the drowning of a Tarlac visitor on Christmas Day in Alcala, Ferdinand Valdez, 22, followed the same fate at 3:30 p.m. of Dec. 26 while swimming at the Bued River in Barangay Binday, San Fabian.
The first victim of drowning was Edmark Malaso, a native of San Manuel, Tarlac who drowned on Dec. 25 along the Agno River in Alcala.
Initial investigation showed that Valdez had a drinking spree during a family gathering before he went swimming at the Bued River.
He was seen swimming along the shallow part of the river dam at 2:40 p.m. but was carried away by a strong current to the deeper part of the water where he drowned.
It was only at 3:00 p.m. that day that his relatives were able to retrieve Valdez from the water.
He was brought to the Region I Medical Center in Dagupan City for medical treatment but was declared dead-on-arrival by the attending physician. PNA/northboundasia.com
