BAGUIO CITY — The Supreme Court (SC) has also ordered the government to pay USD3.5 million to the Board of Commissioners (BOC) in connection with the takeover of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
Aside from the USD510 million which is the amount of the principal amount of just compensation and interest needed to be paid to the Philippine International Air Terminals Company, Inc. (PIATCO) for the takeover of NAIA Terminal 3, the government will also spend an additional USD3.5 million.
In its latest ruling, the SC also ordered the payment of USD 3.5 million to the BOC.
The SC said that this was to shoulder the expenses incurred by the BOC due to the takeover.
The BOC was created in January 2005 to help the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) to determine the just compensation the government has to pay to PIATCO.
The SC added that the full ownership of NAIA Terminal 3 will only go to the government when the just compensation is fully paid.
In 2006, the government took full control and supervision of NAIA 3 from PIATCO on the strength of a writ of possession issued by the Pasay City RTC. PNA/northboundasia.com
