MANILA — Presidential Spokesperson Ernest Abella on Wednesday said that plans for the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani will push through unless a temporary restraining order (TRO) is issued by the Supreme Court (SC).
“The process is ongoing, nobody is rushing anything, it’s just people need to respond as appropriate as possible. Everything is starting to move according to arrangements so unless there is a TRO or anything like that, it will proceed as planned,” Abella said during a press briefing in Malacañang.
Petitions have been filed before the SC questioning the government’s decision allowing the burial of the late strongman at the Libingan and oral arguments are set for next week.
A September 18 burial has been floated but Abella said that an official date has yet to be announced.
But in the event the SC comes out with a decision before the burial, the Palace official said that President Duterte will respect it.
“Any motions and cases that have been filed, let it proceed and the President will respond as he sees fit. The President will abide with the decision of the court,” Abella said. PNA/northboundasia.com
