DAGUPAN CITY — It is yet too far before the San Roque Multi-purpose Project will release water from its reservoir downstream of the Agno river even if the Ambuklao and Binga dams in the upper Agno River basin are already discharging water from their spillway gates hours earlier.
This was assured by Virgilio Garcia, a hydrologist of the National Power Corporation (NPC), who said the elevation of water at the dam’s reservoir at 6:00 a.m. was 275.25 meters above sea level (MASL), or less than five meters below the reservoir’s critical level of 280 meters.
Garcia said San Roque dam can still accommodate the water being discharged by both Ambuklao and Binga dams and does not see any reason for San Roque to also discharge water downstream in the next few hours.
It is now continuously raining heavily all over Northern Luzon as a result of typhoon “Karen”, which may further raise the level of water of existing hydro-electric dams along the Agno River. PNA-northboundasia.com
