CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – A neophyte policeman was brought for confinement at the police holding unit here Friday after he was relieved of his post for possessing illegal drugs.

Senior Superintendent Angelito Dumangeng, La Union police director, ordered the relief of PO1 Menard Randy Miranda, 25, an intelligence officer of the Bauang municipal police station. He was arrested along with his companion Dexter Pascua, subject of a search warrant, in Barangay Central West, Bauang.

Pascua was caught with three sachets of shabu, drug paraphernalia and assorted bullets.

Dumangeng said the raiding policemen and elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group led by Supt. Richard Verceles chanced upon Miranda at a chicken cubicle inside the compound of Pascua.

Policemen subjected Miranda for body search and found in his possession three large sachets of the banned methamphetamine hydro-chloride or shabu and a caliber .45 pistol.

Miranda was not included in the search warrant. But he was suspected to have in his possession illegal drugs so he was bodily searched by the lawmen.

“We don’t tolerate this kind of activity of our policemen. Criminal and administrative charges have already been filed against him,” Dumangeng said, referring to Miranda.

Miranda posted bail for the illegal drug charges, while the administrative offenses will be tackled by the police’s internal affairs service. JUN ELIAS/NorthboundPH
