BATAC CITY, Ilocos Norte — The City Agriculture Office (CAO) in this city is currently distributing rice seeds to local farmers as part of the celebration of Farmer’s festival this month.
“A total of 1,500 bags of seeds are still being distributed to the farmers in Batac City,” said Merryline T. Gappi, City Agriculturist.
The CAO has started distributing the seeds during the Farmers Festival on May 7 but due to the election period, it has been rescheduled.
According to Gappi, the rice or palay seeds subsidy is one of the highlights of festival which aims to help local farmers augment their farming input.
The actual prize of one bag is peg at PHP1,380, 50 percent is shouldered by the city government and the other 50 percent by the farmers, which they have to pay after harvest.
This scheme is designed to continue the implementation of the program and to ensure that farmers are supported alternately.
“This program is a first come first serve service to all farming barangays and open to those who wants to avail,” Gappi said.
The program dubbed “Palay Seeds Subsidy” of the CAO also seeks to achieve sustainable food production and rice self-sufficiency. PNA/northboundasia.com
