TUGUEGARAO CITY — The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Region 2 reported that typhoon “Nona” left more than P578,291,612 in damages on crops and fisheries in the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.
OCD Regional Director and chair of RDRRMC Norma Talosig, on Monday said the total damage on palay, corn and high value crops, as confirmed by the Department of Agriculture (DA), is Php 576,332,360.00.
Damage to fisheries is Php 1,859,250.00 in the Provinces of Cagayan, Isabela and Quirino.
Newly planted palay may have no chance to recover if they will remain submerged for the next couple of days.
Talosig ordered the immediate validation of all reports for the possible grant of financial assistance and subsidy to all affected farmers and fishers.
RDRRMC said total affected population, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), was a total of 46,790 families or 199,530 persons in 278 barangays from 26 municipalities and four cities in the Provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya.
Also, a total of 96 houses were damaged, 15 of which are totally damaged while 81 are partially damaged. Sim C. Dilan/PNA
