Quirino villagers displaced by Army-NPA fight return home

CITY OF CAUAYAN, Isabela — Some 100 families, composed of 410 people, who fled their homes amid the military operations in Barangay Cabua-an, Maddela, Quirino, have returned to their homes Monday night after a two-night stay at the Maddela gymnasium and other evacuation centers in the said province.

1st Lt. James Teaño, Philippine Army’s 86th Infantry Battalion spokesperson, on Tuesday said the families went back to their homes after they have been assured of their security as the village has already been reportedly cleared of communist guerrillas.

Most of the villagers, especially senior citizens and children, have been medically checked and were given medications, he said.

The families left their homes Saturday to avoid being caught in a crossfire between the Philippine Army soldiers and New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in the said village. VILLAMOR VISAYA JR/PNA-northboundasia.com
