MANILA — The 3rd quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) has been reset to Sept. 27 at the same venue, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in an advisory late Wednesday.
The ceremonial venue is still the Strike Gymnasium in Bacoor City, Cavite with the drill starting at 2 p.m., NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said.
The 3rd quarter NSED was originally scheduled on Thursday but was postponed following President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of the above-mentioned date as a “National Day of Protest”, resulting in the suspension of classes in public schools and government offices.
“Since most of the Regional DRRM Councils have selected government offices and schools as its pilot area, the National Council deemed it necessary to conduct the 3rd quarter NSED to a later date. This is to ensure maximum participation to the earthquake drill,” NDRRMC chair and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said earlier.
The NDRRMC conducts nationwide earthquake drills quarterly, as one of the tools to promote disaster preparedness and resilience among communities. PNA-northboundasia.com
