SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) made an inventory of all firearms issued to its uniformed personnel on Tuesday.
Police Chief Superintendent Ericson T. Velasquez, PRO 1 director, said the showdown inspection is part of the PNP’s nationwide inventory of firearms to account all government firearms issued to different PNP units and police personnel.
“This is such a very significant move of the PNP leadership to guarantee the readiness of our personnel in terms of firearms prior their deployment for election duties this May 2016,” Velasquez added.
Director Juanito B. Vaño of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Directorate for Logistics, who led the inventory, said that the initiative wants to ensure that firearms are within proper care, with appropriate authority and in the possession of a responsible personnel.
“The PNP is very serious in this endeavor to eliminate the possibilities that these issued firearms may use in criminal activities. I would like also to enjoin this regional office to conduct regular physical inventory not only on firearms but also for other equipment,” Vaño said.
The inventory was also conducted at the Regional Public Safety Battalion 1 (RPSB1), police provincial offices and police stations of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.
During the inspection, the issued firearm, magazines and ammunition were presented to the inspecting officer together with acknowledgement receipt of equipment and PNP identification card.
