URDANETA CITY –- President Benigno Aquino III turned over to local education officials a four-storey, 24-classroom school building donated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to the Department of Education (DepEd), Monday.
The school building located at the Urdaneta I Central School in Poblacion area costs P48,019,514.55. It was constructed starting on April 21 and completed on March 11 this year under PAGCOR’s “Matuwid na Daan sa Silid-Aralan” program.
In inspecting the project, the President was joined by PAGCOR Chair Cristino Naguiat Jr., Department of Public Works Regional Director Melanio Briosos, DepEd I Regional Director Alma Ruby Torio and Urdaneta I Central School Principal Robert Tababa.
PAGCOR and DepEd signed a partnership agreement five years ago in implementing the program dubbed as “Matuwid na Daan sa Silid Aralan”.
This was in response to the call of President Aquino for the two agencies to work hand in hand to fill in the backlog of classrooms in public schools.
The program not only aims to help address the severe classrooms shortage in public schools nationwide but also seeks to provide a better learning environment for the students.
The newly-built facility will accommodate some 1,000 students of Urdaneta I Central School when classes open this June. PNA / northboundasia.com
