PPRCV urges public to also watch vice presidential debate

MANILA, Philippines — The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) on Saturday urged the public to also watch the vice presidential debate set on Sunday.

PPRCV national chairperson Ambassador Henrietta de Villa said VP is as important as the president.

“They should not underestimate the role and value of the vice presidency. If anything happens to the president, death, incapacity of mental faculties, etc. the VP takes over,” said the official of the PPRCV, an official citizen arm of the Commission on Elections.

“A good VP is a great help to the president and an asset for unifying different elements in society that could be harnessed for the common good,” she added.

De Villa said the VP position could serve as the pulse reader of people’s expectation of government.

“But the VP must also be a team player & not simply watching out for the president to konk off literally & figuratively, a John the baptist to Jesus Christ,” she said.

The first and only vice presidential debate in connection with each May 9 polls, spearheaded by the Comelec together with CNN Philippines and Business Mirror will be held at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion at 5 p.m.

All the six candidates, Senators Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Alan Peter Cayetano, Francis ‘Chiz’Escudero, Antonio Trillanes IV, Gregorio ‘Gringo’ Honasan, and congresswoman Leni Robredo are expected to attend the event. PNA/ northboundasia.com
