Poor Performance: 13 Ilocos Region Police Chiefs Fired From Posts

CAMP FLORENDO, LA Union – Thirteen police commanders in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and La Union were relieved from their posts due to their poor performance in maintaining peace and order in their areas of jurisdiction.

Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, regional director of Police Regional Office 1, said that the police chiefs were fired last July 31, 2018 after they failed to improve crime clearance and efficiency in their locality,

The police chiefs were from Batac City, Pinili, Carasi and Nueva Era police stations, all in Ilocos Norte; Candon City, Narvacan, Santa, Alilem, Salcedo, Sugpon police stations, in Ilocos Sur; and Santol, Burgos and San Gabriel police stations, in La Union.

“As head of office, it is their responsibility to lessen crimes and improve their efficiency in their areas. A way to ensure that the organization is working well is to see to it that the heads of units and offices are capable of doing the same,” Sapitula said.

He said the police officers were relieved and reassigned as checkpoint supervisors.

“We have to set standards to continuously improve the performance of police officers in Region 1 and we will not tolerate any act of laxity and incompetence with our mandate,’’ Sapitula said.

The deputy chiefs of police in the affected police stations were appointed as officers-in-charge.

Meanwhile, the Pangasinan police office was given an additional one week to improve their performance before the evaluation. The extension was due to the calamity spawned by typhoons that struck the province. Jun Elias/
