Police internal affairs to summon cops mentioned by Kerwin Espinosa

MANILA — The Philippine National Police’s Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) will deepen its investigation into the policemen implicated in the death of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa last November 5.

PNP-IAS deputy inspector general, Chief Supt. Angelo Leuterio, said Wednesday they will immediately place under the PNP-Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU) the policemen mentioned by Kerwin Espinosa whom he linked to the illegal drug trade in the Eastern Visayas region.

Kerwin Espinosa is the alleged big-time drug lord of Eastern Visayas.

Leuterio said this was after Kerwin mentioned in his affidavit that he also had illegal drug transactions with some policemen who were among those involved in the Nov. 5 operation at the Baybay, Leyte sub-provincial jail.

He said that as such, they have to re-visit the possible angles or motives in the mayor’s death.

Among the angles being looked into by the PNP-IAS are revenge, competition in the illegal drug trade, and the possibility that there are policemen who footed the bill to slay the Albuera mayor.

Leuterio said they will summon to Camp Crame all the policemen mentioned by Kerwin Espinosa in the Senate hearing.

He added that this is to expedite the “access” to the policemen for the appropriate in-depth investigation. Perfecto Raymundo Jr/PNA-northboundasia.com
