ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) announced that the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) “Balik Manggagawa” will enjoy tax exemptions starting September this year.
Marietta Bellotindos, POEA regional director, made this announcement Thursday, saying Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Sec. Sivestre Bello III had approved Resolution No. 12 passed by the POEA Governing Board headed by Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac.
Bellotindos said among the exemptions the Balik Manggagawa would enjoy included the payment of travel tax and terminal fee. They will no longer be required to secure Overseas Employment Certificate.
Bellotindos said Balik Manggagawa referred to registered OFW, who would return to the same employer and jobsite and those hired through the government placement branch.
With the exemptions, Bellotindos said the OFW can spend and enjoy their vacation with their families instead of processing papers such as the Overseas Employment Certificate with the POEA.
Meanwhile, she disclosed that her office has processed a total of 9,569 Balik Manggagawa from January to June this year.
She said they were working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Brunei, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, Bahrain, and other countries.
They are employed as nurses, engineers, household service workers, operator, laborers, managerial work, administrative work, and agricultural workers. PNA/northboundasia.com
