MANILA, Philippines – Independent presidential aspirant Senator Grace Poe said on Tuesday she believes that the voters will choose in the May 9 polls the right candidate who will lead the country in the next six years.
Poe made this reaction after Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP)-Laban) presidential candidate Mayor Rodrigo Duterte kept the lead in the recent Pulse Asia-ABS-CBN survey.
”Naniniwala ako na sa araw ng halalan, pipili ang mga botante ng isang lider na makatao at may galing, para sa kabutihan ng buong bansa,” Poe said in a press statement.
Based on the survey, Duterte garnered 32 percent from the 4,000 surveyed respondents while Poe retained the second spot with 25 percent.
”Ginagalang natin ang mga survey at gagamitin itong gabay sa patuloy na paglilibot sa buong bansa,” Poe said.
She added that she will remain focused on presenting to the people her platforms of government which are centered on addressing poverty by investing more on agriculture, social services and education, particularly in Mindanao area.
In the Pulse Asia survey, opposition candidate Vice President Jejomar Binay and administration standard-bearer Mar Roxas are in the third and fourth place with 20 and 18 percent, while Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago remains at the bottom with only 1 percent.
The survey was held from April 5 to 10 or days before Duterte’s bad joke on the rape-slay of Australian lay missionary Jacqueline Hamil in 1989.
The controversial statement of Duterte drew the ire of the women’s group and the netizens. PNA/northboundasia.com
