MANILA — Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares will personally witness on Tuesday (Jan. 19) the oral arguments at the Supreme Court (SC) on the cancellation by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) of her certificate of candidacy (CoC) for president in the May 9, 2016 elections.
Poe’s legal counsel, Atty. George Garcia, said on Thursday that although Poe will be represented by their lead counsel, Atty. Alex Poblador, the senator has decided to personally hear the exchange of arguments between the parties in the case.
For his part, Poblador believes that the position of the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) will be given weight in the decision to be rendered by the Supreme Court (SC) in the case.
Solicitor General Florin T. Hilbay is among those ordered by the SC to present their position in the case.
The OSG had earlier defended the decision of the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) stating that Poe is a natural-born citizen.
On the part of the Comelec, Commissioner Arthur Lim is ordered to serve as the lead counsel. PNA / northboundasia.com
