PNP ready to put showbiz personalities linked to drugs under ‘Oplan Tokhang’ — dela Rosa

MANILA — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said Monday the PNP is ready to place under “Oplan Tokhang” personalities in the show business industry allegedly involved in illegal drugs.

Dela Rosa made the statement in the face of reports that some 50 showbiz personalities are allegedly included in the list of President Rodrigo Duterte who are involved in illegal drugs.

”Surrender na kayo kasi identified kayo na user, itokhang natin. Tinokhang nga natin yung mga high-end subdivisions dyan, sila pa na public figure sila. (These personalities should surrender because they have been identified as users. If we were able to put high-end subdivisions under Oplan Tokhang, what more these personalities who are public figures.) They should be open to the public,” he said.

According to dela Rosa, once the police gets hold of the list from President Duterte, police officers will subject the showbiz personalities under “Oplan Tokhang”, by knocking at their houses or even at the television stations to convince them to surrender to authorities.

Under “Oplan Tokhang”, the PNP visits residences of suspected drug users and pushers to give them a chance to turn themselves in and promise to stop their illegal activities, surrender or undergo rehabilitation.

According to Martin Diño, former Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) chairman and incoming Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman, 50 celebrities are in the drug list of President Duterte. Perfecto Raymundo/PNA –
