PNP FILES MULTIPLE CHARGES AGAINST COED’S KILLER IN ILOCOS TOWN

LAOAG CITY –A suspect in the slaying of a 19 year-old senior student of the Mariano Marcos State University is facing multiple charges as he was arrested by the Tuguegarao police on Monday.

Victorino Mangabat Jr. has long been under the top watch list of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group nationwide since the killing of Jemima Kezia Andres, who was found dead along the national highway in Sarrat town on Aug. 4, 2015.

Police said Mangabat was arrested when a gasoline station owner in Tuguegarao town tipped off that the suspect on board a white Mitsubishi Montero van ran away payment of his gas refill.

Police ran after the suspect, who was then trapped in a police checkpoint in Barangay Gosi. Mangabat tried to run away from them and even attempted to get the gun of one of the responding police before he was shot on the chest by the police in neighboring Dadda village.

As of this posting, Mangabat is being heavily guarded by policemen at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center after his medical operation.

Supt Jessi Tamayao said in a radio interview they were now coordinating with the Philippine National Police in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte for the filing of at least six charges involving the suspect.

Aside from Andres killing, Mangabat and his mother, who is now in jail, is also being linked in the abduction of 21 year-old Juliet Latade from Tabako, Albay who was rescued by the police inside Mangabat’s get way vehicle during the operation. Latade confirmed she was abducted by Mangabat since Aug. 16, 2015 in Bicol where the suspect went in hiding. The suspect is also facing estafa, carnapping, robbery and kidnapping in view of previous incidents against him.

Inside Mangabat’s carnap vehicle is also a three year-old boy reportedly as his son. The boy is now under custody by authorities. PNA / northboundasia.com
