DINGRAS, Ilocos Norte — Members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have intensified their efforts to immediately arrest the first violator of election gun ban here.
The suspect, identified as Doddy Dong Espejo, a member of the Civil Security Unit of Dingras town and a resident of the village of Albano, this town, is now being hunted by law enforcers after he shot one Carlos Angelo Paghid, 25, of Dancel village, this town.
Police report said that at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday, the victim and three companions were having a drinking spree at a store. Nearby, Espejo and six other males with motorcycles were also having a drinking session.
After a while, the suspect boarded his motorcycle and accelerated it prompting the victim to ask the suspect in Ilocano: “Apay pare? (Why man?)” in a harsh voice, which the suspect answered by pulling out his gun and firing it several times, hitting the victim’s abdomen.
The victim was later on brought by the responding Police officers to a nearby hospital for medical treatment while the suspect fled on foot leaving his motorcycle behind.
Members of the scene of the crime operations (SOCO) team were able to recover from the crime scene at least seven empty cartridges of Cal. 45, one fired bullet and one bullet metal jacket. Also recovered from the suspect’s motorcycle was a black sando bag containing one Cal. 9mm Taurus bearing serial no. THU 37400 with markings PT 99 AF 9MM PARA and with inserted magazine loaded with 13 live ammunitions, 34 live ammunitions for Cal. 45, three pieces inside holster and a cash worth PhP74,500.
As of the moment, the recovered firearm is now under the custody of Ilocos Norte PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination while the suspect’s motorcycle is with the Dingras PNP.
Town mayor Erdio Valenzuela lamented that his town registered the first gun ban violator in the region amidst stern warning from the PNP and the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Dingras has been included as one of the municipalities under election watch list by authorities. PNA / northboundasia.com
