CLARK, Pampanga — Travelers flying in and out of the Clark International Airport will now have easy access to various information about the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as the programs and projects of the national government and local government units.
This, as the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) launched on Tuesday its ASEAN Information Kiosk inside the Clark International Airport here with an aim to heighten awareness of the people in Central and Northern Luzon on the relevance of ASEAN being one regional community.
PIA Deputy Director General Gregorio Angelo Villar, in his speech, cited the importance to create awareness on the significance of ASEAN for people to get deeper understanding on the regional integration, its benefits and impacts.
“We have solicited your support in our effort to heighten the awareness of the public about the regional integration and its many opportunities for Filipinos,” Villar said.
Likewise, Villar thanked the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) for giving a space for the ASEAN Information Kiosk which he has seen to help generate the interest of the local and international travelers in knowing what ASEAN is all about and its impact on the lives of the Filipinos.
Aside from various brochures, fact sheets, leaflets about ASEAN, there are also some useful materials about the government services, programs and projects available in the information kiosk.
“This is to let the public know that government provides various services to the people,” Villar said.
PIA Regional Director William Beltran, meanwhile, said that the launching of the PIA-ASEAN Information Kiosk is part of hyping Clark’s hosting of the centerpiece 31st ASEAN Summit and related meetings in November this year.
Besides the putting up of information kiosk, Beltran said the PIA will also conduct a campus tour in the region to let the youth know more about ASEAN.
CIAC president Alexander Cauguiran, for his part, said that it is an honor for them to welcome ASEAN delegates and to play host for the PIA-ASEAN Information Kiosk from which, he said, the public will definitely gain knowledge and information.
“It is important for the people to understand the relevance of ASEAN and we hope that the residents in Central and Northern Luzon would know more about the regional integration through this information kiosk,” Cauguiran said. PNA-northboundasia.com
