PHL’s Lim wins first match at Asia-Oceania Junior Championships

MANILA — Filipino top junior netter Albert Lim Jr. sailed into the second round of the Seogwipo Asia-Oceania Junior Championships after beating Korean wild card Han Seong Yong, 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday at the Seogwipo Tennis Center in Jeju, South Korea.

The sixth-seeded Lim, who is ranked 47th in the ITF Juniors, will next meet Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata, who survived Taiwanese Huang Tsung-Hao, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).

Four more qualifiers — Koreans Kim Geun Jun, Park Seong Ho and Lee Hui Geun and Indian Manish Sureshkumar advanced to the next round.

Kim defeated No. 11 Japanese James Kent Trotter, 6-2, 6-2; Park rallied past Hong Kong’s Denton Ho, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5); Lee prevailed over Hong Kong’s Ching Ho Sunny Yue, 7-6 (1), 6-2; and Sureshkumar outclassed Korean qualifier Song Seung Yun, 6-0, 6-1.

Top seed and world’s No. 12 Yibing Wu of China also earned a seat in the second round following his 6-0, 6-2 win over Korean wild card Joo Young Min.

Wu, coming off back-to-back singles titles in Incheon and Beijing, will be up against Australian Alexander Crnokrak, a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Korean qualifier Kim Ki Bum.

Other seeds advancing were Yuta Shimizu (No. 2), Toru Horie (No. 4), Naoki Tajima (No. 8) and Shinji Hazawa (No. 10) of Japan; Yu Hsiou Hsu (No. 3), Chien Hsun Lo (No. 5) and Bang Shuo Yin (No. 13) of Chinese Taipei; No. 7 Zhao Lingxi of China; Adam Walton (No. 9) and Moerani Bouzige (No. 12) of Australia; and No. 14 Ajeet Rai of New Zealand.
